Another benefit is that the various layers and components used in the buildup of the roof act as an acoustic barrier to stop or reflect noise.

Green roofs also act as important habitat for bio diverse insect life and more work has gone into selecting the correct type of planting to encourage habitat.

The combination of soil, plants and drainage layers can also have a positive effect to rainwater run-off from a building which is particularly important in terms of reducing floods which are increasing as a result of global warming.
